The Look of Summer

 

My new summer look is an all time favorite combo, a play on the masculine and feminine. Short shorts have always been a wardrobe staple, but I have recently found when paired with a glam tee and blazer it creates the perfect modern edge. I can not get enough of this chic duo, see some of my favorite examples below.

I LOVE grapefruit juice and when I found this picture of a grapefruit margarita I knew I had to feature and make one for myself. It’s the perfect combination of sweet and salty and a great addition to your memorial day weekend. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

• 2 oz tequila
• 2 oz orange liqueur
• 2 oz fresh squeezed lime juice
• 6 oz fresh squeezed grapefruit juice
• Simple syrup, to taste
• Salt, for rim (optional)
• Grapefruit wedges, for serving (optional)

Preparation:

Mix tequila, orange liqueur, lime, and grapefruit juices well. If you think you need a little more sweetness, add a splash of simple syrup.

Rub one of the used lime or grapefruit rinds around the rim of two glasses and dip in salt. Fill each with ice and pour in the margarita.

I must warn, the song of the week is a bit on the eclectic side and quite long. However, upon my first listen I noticed I couldn’t stop thinking about it. It’s energized, then slow, and in a very Decemberists way tells a story. Do me a favor, and give this song a full listen. Then go and buy the new Fleet Foxes album, it’s incredible.

And on another note, GO MAVS!! I have been a fan and season ticket holder since the 80's (woo reunion arena and the triple J's) and am beyond thrilled we have made it to the finals once again. It looks like it's going to be a 2006 re-do, and as an attender of game 6 of that tragic final series, I really hope it is!

Our MVP -- no one deserves this more.

Dallas is in a tizzy as the most influential stylist and one of the biggest trendsetters of this decade is traipsing through our zip code tonight to show off her newest venture. For those of you who don’t know, Rachel Zoe has created her own ah-mazing clothing line set to launch this Fall and coming to a Neiman Marcus near me in August. I Die. It’s got a 70’s chic vibe that has me weak in the knees. Seriously, this will be bad for my shopping habit. Apologies fiancé.

I am not sure how I haven’t seen these photos a billion times already on the blog-osphere, but who I am to complain to be able to showcase them early.

Sharply tailored suits and sophisticated menswear round out Zoe’s collection.

The outwear is Ba-nanas (last Rachel-izm, promise) and I am ecstatic faux fur is here to stay this fall.

For serious, dreams were made from this cape on the left.

My affinity for all things black and white will never die.

Ingredients:

• 2 ounces London dry gin
• 1 teaspoon super fine sugar
• 1/2 ounce lemon juice
• 5 ounces Brut champagne

Preparation:

• Shake well with cracked ice in a chilled cocktail shaker, then strain into a Collins glass half-full of cracked ice and top off with champagne. Cheers!
